Executive Director

The Alberta Foster and Kinship Association (AFKA) is seeking a dynamic Executive Director to guide our organization toward continued growth and impactful service.
About AFKA
The Alberta Foster and Kinship Association is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to supporting foster and kinship caregivers across Alberta. Our mission is to empower these caregivers by providing essential resources, training, and a community of support, ensuring that every child and youth in the province receives the nurturing environment they deserve.
Your Role
As the Executive Director, you will:
- Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans that advance AFKA’s mission.
- Program Oversight: Ensure the effective delivery of programs and services that support caregivers, including the Caregiver Support Team, legal assistance, and educational initiatives.
- Advocacy: Serve as the primary spokesperson for AFKA, advocating for policies and practices that benefit foster and kinship caregivers and the children they support.
- Financial Stewardship: Oversee budgeting, financial management, and fundraising efforts to ensure the organization’s sustainability and growth.
- Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with caregivers, community partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications
- Relevant degree preferred; advanced degree in nonprofit management, business administration, social work or a related field. Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- Proven experience in nonprofit leadership, including strategic planning, program management, and team leadership.
- Strong understanding of policy board governance and collaboration.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant management, and financial oversight.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders.
- Experience advocating with various levels of government and key stakeholders to influence policy or decisions.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Child, Youth, Family Enhancement Act, as well as applicable policies.
- Ability and willingness to travel, throughout Alberta, and to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Experience working with the foster and kinship caregiving community is an asset.
- Passion for AFKA’s mission and a commitment to supporting caregivers and children in Alberta.
