April 20 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

AFKA Members!!
Join us for a cultural experience at historic Fort Edmonton Park on Saturday April 20, 2024, at our Indigenous Culture Day Event!

We aim to provide just the right amount of time for you and the family to enjoy yourselves (and maybe learn a little something too)!  Being our second time doing this, we have changed things up a bit! We wanted to make the programming fun and easy for kids of all ages!

Over three hours, you will experience a few fun events! We will take you on a tour of the Indigenous People’s Experience Exhibit, entertain the family with a puppet show, and even enjoy bannock-over-the-fire in a huge 30ft teepee!

*This event will be counted as 3 cultural hours. After the event, certificates will be sent out via email!
PLUS! Each attendee receives one complimentary pass equal to general admission for the 2024 summer season (sent via email post-event)*

Event Times:
9am-12pm (1pm-4pm session is full)

**Register for one of the time slots below using the form; children under 2 years of age are FREE!**

What you’ll see and do:

Tour through the Indigenous Peoples Experience exhibit – guided by on-site interpreters, explore life through the diversity of First Nations and Métis peoples. The award-winning exhibit explores the rich and beautiful cultures of First Nations and Métis Peoples while encouraging visitors to seek out the truths as lived by Indigenous Peoples.

Enjoy a Puppet Show – join Bear, Beaver, Buffalo, and Bobby-the-Cat on their journey through the woods and prairies in search of their original names in nêhiyawêwin – Plains Cree. In this happy puppet show, children will also have the opportunity to construct their own sock puppets. Time permitting and with the guidance of an Indigenous Interpreter, children might also play a small part in their own puppet show.

Bannock – in a newly erected 30ft teepee – enjoy Bannock on a stick over a real fire. As you enjoy jam with your Bannock, one of our Indigenous Interpreters will share a funny little story.
